Dr. Diane L. Giffen - Independent Optometrist Inside Walmart Vision Center

Dr. Giffen performs comprehensive eye exams that include testing for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other eye disease. She is also therapeutically licensed and prescribes medications for eye infections and other eye conditions.

Dr. Giffen prescribes glasses and fits contact lenses, including colored, rigid gas permeable, bifocal, and astigmatism correcting lenses. She will speak to you about your visual needs so that she may prescribe the optimal correction for you. The right kind of correction can alleviate eyestrain, discomfort, and blurry vision from computer use, reading, or driving.

Children should have their eyes examined annually so that vision problems can be caught and treated before they interfere with learning at school or result in permanently reduced vision in adulthood (such as "lazy eye"). Many eye disorders can be missed by school screenings, so there is no substitute for a complete eye exam. The earlier a child's vision problems are treated, the better the prognosis usually is.

Adults should have their eyes examined at least every two years. If there are any systemic health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, or a history of eye disease, then exams should be done at least every year (depending on the problem). Contact lens wearers should also be examined every year to insure that contact lenses are fitting the eye properly, giving clear vision, and not causing problems with eye health.
